This is a snippet from my digital life planner. My phrase of the year for 2024 was ‘Becoming Me,’ and wow, has this year really been just that. I didn’t know exactly what it would mean at the time, but this year has been showing me.
I wanted to write this newsletter to let you guys who are probably some of my most engaged community members, know that there are going to be some changes in the content I put out mainly on YouTube and Instagram. It’s nothing major, more of a refinement and refocus but as I transition fully from being a corporate girly/banker to an entrepreneur, there were things that needed to be reevaluated and adjusted.
This shift is happening now because the first few months after leaving banking were about transitioning my day-to-day life and getting used to showing up for myself rather than someone else. Then, I had to adjust to relocating to South Africa, which was a huge change on its own. But recently, I realised there was still a major shift that needed to happen.
If you know me well, you’ll know I’ve never wanted to be a full-time content creator and I never have been really however, a few weeks ago, I had to reassess where my time was going, and I realized that for someone who doesn’t want to be a full-time creator, way too much of my time was going toward content creation. That was partly because I hadn’t fully accepted my new identity as an entrepreneur. That’s what I’ve wanted to be, but something about it felt strange, like I couldn’t call myself that even though I was building my own business. I think it’s because your habits make up who you are—you are what you do and what you consume, etc.—and I just wasn’t spending enough time getting into the entrepreneurship zone. That needed to change, and it has been changing over the last few weeks.
When you start looking at things from an entrepreneur’s perspective, everything feels different—the choices, the strategy, the outlook. That’s why I’ve had to start taking a new approach with my content to be more focused on benefiting my entrepreneurial ventures, some of which you’re aware of and others that are happening in the background. I now see myself as an entrepreneur with a social media presence, not a content creator who dabbles in entrepreneurship.
I’ll be sharing more over the next few weeks about this journey, as it might be helpful for anyone else who is also going through an identity transformation or transition. Some people may like the changes, but i’m sure some others may not but that’s part of the hard decisions you have to make as an entrepreneur. I’ll explain more as the weeks go on but I just wanted to give a short overview in today’s newsletter. Wish me luck! x
