Making Space for the Life You Want

& a deep dive into stock market investing!

As I’m writing this, I’ve just returned from a property roadshow in Nigeria with Binghatti, a luxury developer—an all-expenses-paid trip. And it was so good! Watch here.

I was invited just a week before (you can actually see me reviewing the proposal in one of the final clips of my last vlog), my tickets were booked on Friday, and I flew out Saturday evening. Crazy, but this is the life I’ve chosen to embrace. And next week? I’ll be off to South Africa for another roadshow.

I mention this because it’s wild what can happen when you clear your plate and make space for new opportunities. But more importantly, this trip is proof of something I’ve written about before—how vital it is to catch up with and connect with people. This entire experience stemmed from one conversation. The small things I’ve been doing differently are paying off. A reminder that if you want new things for your life, you have to start doing new things.

In my last newsletter, I mentioned that I’ve been reading How to Win Friends & Influence People to help me with relationship building (you’ve already seen some of the results), but I thought I’d also share a few key lessons so far. Honestly, writing this out helps me remember and apply them because this isn’t something that comes naturally to me.

How to Win Friends & Influence People Notes:

• People aren’t always logical. They’re driven by emotions—pride, vanity, the need to feel important. It’s easy to criticise, condemn, and complain, but true influence comes from understanding, patience, and kindness. If you can show people this, you’ll have an impact on them.

• If you want people to do something (let’s say, buy into your services), they have to want to do it. And that starts with tapping into what actually motivates them: health, security, money, recognition, their children’s well-being, the feeling of importance. If you can connect with these emotions, you’re far more likely to persuade and convert.

• People love to feel valued. Leaving a trail of appreciation and genuine compliments makes a difference. One thing I’m personally working on is taking a real interest in people—even when there doesn’t seem to be an obvious common ground. As someone who enjoys minding their own business, this is new for me.

In summary (of the first few chapters, anyway), influence is about making people want something rather than selling it to them, then positioning yourself as someone who genuinely helps solve their problems. If you’re not into sales or marketing, this might not seem all that exciting, but it’s been super insightful for me.
